Two train services connect Fiumicino to Rome's rail network, and they're not interchangeable — one is a dedicated nonstop express, the other a slower regional line with more stops. Choosing correctly can save you a transfer or a chunk of your travel budget.
Leonardo Express
Nonstop from the Fiumicino Aeroporto station to Roma Termini in about 32 minutes, running every 15 minutes from roughly 05:00 to 23:30 in both directions. One-way tickets are €14. It makes no intermediate stops, so it's the fastest and simplest option if Termini is your actual destination, and from Termini nearly every metro line and long-distance train onward connection is available.
FL1 Regional
Calls at Fiera di Roma, Ponte Galeria, Muratella, Magliana, Trastevere, Ostiense (interchange with Metro line B), Tuscolana, and Tiburtina, taking about 48 minutes to Tiburtina, before continuing on toward Orte and Fara Sabina. It's cheaper than the Leonardo Express, though the exact single fare depends on Trenitalia's fare engine at time of booking.
Buying tickets
Buy at station ticket machines, the Trenitalia app, or a staffed counter before boarding. If you buy a paper ticket, validate it at the yellow machines on the platform before travel — unvalidated tickets can be treated as invalid on inspection.

Trenitalia periodically runs online promotional fares for both routes, and CartaFreccia loyalty members can see reduced pricing at checkout — it's worth comparing the app price against the station-machine price before you buy, since the two aren't always identical. Children below Trenitalia's standard age threshold generally travel free or at a reduced fare when accompanied by a paying adult; check the current age and fare rules on the app at time of booking.
Luggage on board
Both services allow standard airline-sized luggage on board at no extra charge — there's no dedicated luggage car or check-in requirement, so keep your bags with you in the vestibule or overhead space. Neither train has full-size hold storage, so travelers with several large suitcases should plan to keep them within reach rather than relying on staff assistance.
At the station
The station, Fiumicino Aeroporto, sits directly beneath the terminal complex, a short walk from arrivals — clearly signed from both Terminal 1 and Terminal 3.
